Do I Have To Pay That Property Tax Bill

If you’re a homeowner, you might have received a property tax bill from the county. We get this question all the time this time of year, because it can be really confusing, especially if you’re a new homeowner.

The reason why it’s confusing is what it’ll look like is that you have to pay the taxes to the county. They’ll send a bill saying that the property taxes are due and that you need to send in payment.

Really what they’re doing is they’re notifying you about the property tax bill. So, the purpose of this video is to let you know that if you escrow for your taxes and insurance, if that’s part of your mortgage payment, your lender also got the same property tax bill, and they’re going to pay that bill on your behalf.

Now, it is wise to look into your account from time to time and make sure that those escrows are going out as planned, but 99.9% of the time all is well, the lender is going to pay that. It’s very rare that there’s actually a problem with the escrows going out, but regardless, just to be a good steward of your home loan, you should check that from time to time.

Just know that if you get a property tax bill in the mail and it says that it’s due and you have to send in a check and you have a mortgage, you do not have to send in a check. So call us though, if you have any questions on this or of course, anything else loan-related, I’m here for you. 303-670-0137.
